The End of the Year Book Tag

The end of the year is getting really close already. I still feel like it’s April and at the same time, this year absolutely flew by. The pandemic really made this such a weird year. I’ve been using reading as escapism, of course, and in this post, I’ll get into the books I’m looking forward to reading and buying before the end of the year.

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

I usually finish book pretty quickly after starting them, but for some reason it takes me ages to read anthologies. I started All Out, edited by Saundra Mitchell, in June, and I really want to finish it soon.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

I’ve actually skipped autumn and jumped straight to reading Christmas books. If you want a recommendation for a very comforting Christmas novella: please read Sugar and Spice by Eli Wray, which is just such a fluffy, delightful book full of trans joy that put a massive grin on my face.

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

For November: Here the Whole Time by Vitor Martins and The Burning God by R.F. Kuang. And for December: The Love Curse of Melody McIntyre by Robin Talley and This Is How We Fly by Anna Meriano.

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

I would love to read a bunch of books before the end of the year, and I might dedicate a separate post to it, but here are three 2020 releases that I’d love to read before the end of the year: To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini, Furia by Yamile Saied-Méndez and Miss Meteor by Tehlor Kay Mejia and Anna-Marie McLemore.

Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?

Honestly? No, my most anticipated releases of the year have also ended up becoming my very favourites, and I’ve read all of my most anticipated releases of 2020 by now. BUT! I do have very high hopes for To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, and it might not top Addie LaRue (which is currently my favourite read of the year), but it might still end up on my favourites list.

Have you already started making reading plans for 2021?

I haven’t really thought about it yet. I think my reading goal will be the same, and I would love to reach a 90% feedback ratio on Netgalley. I don’t think I’ll plan to make many changes, because I had a really successful reading year – I really have a good grasp of my reading tastes by now and so I’ll keep focusing on reading the same/similar books.
