The End of Year Book Tag

It’s already almost December and I know people always say this, but I genuinely can’t believe how fast this year passed. I wanted to do this tag to take a moment to think about what I still want to get to this year.

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

I’m currently reading the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb and got kind of stuck in book 2, Royal Assassin. I would love to finish that book before the end of the year, and I would especially love to also read book 3! I am loving the series, but I keep getting distracted by other books I want to read.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

Yes! I’m currently reading The Wolf and the Woodsman, and I’m hoping to read The City Beautiful shortly after. I would also love to read Vespertine, but my copy got stuck in customs, so I have no idea when it will arrive.

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

The number 1 book I’m still waiting for this year is Here’s to Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera, the follow-up to What If It’s Us, which I adored! It comes out on December 28 and I’ve preordered the ebook so I can start reading immediately (but I also have a physical copy preordered).

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

The main book I want to read before the end of the year is To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini, that I keep putting off. Between Christmas and New Year’s, there’s nothing better than getting stuck in a really big book, so this will hopefully be perfect to read then.

I would also love to read Jade Fire Gold and A Clash of Steel soon, but I won’t be too disappointed if I don’t get around to reading those before 2022.

Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?

I don’t think any other book will still become my favourite book of the year, because I read that one on January 1st of this year and it still hasn’t been surpassed by anything. So I’m fairly certain Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers will end up being my favourite book of the year. However, I do have two 5 star predictions on my TBR for the end of the year: Tonight We Rule the World by Zack Smedley and A Lesson in Vengeance by Victoria Lee.

Have you already started making reading plans for 2022?

My main reading plan for 2022 is to tackle the good majority of my Netgalley TBR, because I keep trying to get a handle on it and it keeps getting out of hand. I especially want to finally get around to some of the older eARCs I still haven’t reviewed. A few Netgalley books I’m hoping to read in early 2022:

  • One For All by Lillie Lainoff
  • Only a Monster by Vanessa Len
  • The Red Palace by June Hur
  • The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh
  • A Magic Steeped in Poison by Judy I. Lin
