This tag was created by Rosina @ Lace and Dagger Books and I found it on Dorka’s blog, Berries and Books.
The goal of this tag is to match books to songs. You start by putting your Spotify 2020 playlist on shuffle, and then you combine the first 5 songs to come up to 5 books you’ve read this year. My Spotify wrapped is half K-pop songs, which I got into halfway through the year, and half Ben Platt and Taylor Swift songs. So I’m expecting these to pop up, but who knows, we could be surprised!
The National – Demons
Okay, maybe I should have mentioned that I also listen A LOT to the playlists Casey McQuiston made for Alex and Henry from Red, White & Royal Blue! I especially adore the Henry playlist, it’s super comforting. I think this song is from that playlist.
The best book I can think of to pair with this is These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong, which I read very recently. It has a very similar vibe to the one I’m getting from the song. I had a pretty rocky experience with this book: I initially picked it up and really didn’t vibe with it, so I DNFd it. But I saw so many people wax poetic about it that I felt like I could really not miss out, and I gave it a second chance when I felt I was more in the mood for it. And this time around I LOVED it. I really need a sequel like, yesterday!

Taylor Swift – my tears ricochet
I had a really difficult time pairing up this song with anything I’ve read this year, because it’s so specific and I tend to read, you know, happier books. But while it’s not a romantic scenario, but one between siblings, I still think Come Tumbling Down by Seanan McGuire matches this song quite well. I don’t want to spoil it as it’s the 5th book in the Wayward Children series, but it’s about the relationship between these sisters who could not be any different, and who hate each other so much, but they also still love each other.

COIN – Talk Too Much
This song is from the Alex Claremont-Diaz playlist, and it just EMBODIES him. It IS him. So I can’t go with any other book for this song than Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston.

BTOB – Only One For Me
I was already wondering when the first K-Pop song would show up! For this song, I can only choose a romance. The first one that came to mind when I listened to this song was You Had Me At Hola by Alexis Daria, an adult romance I’ve really enjoyed this year.

BTS – IDOL
Another K-Pop song, and arguably my favourite one! This was the first BTS song I listened to, and now I’m listening to their newest album every day. For this song, I can only go with I’ll Be the One by Lyla Lee. It’s about this Korean-American girl who wants to become a K-Pop star, and it’s the book that got me into K-Pop! After reading the book, I listened to the author’s playlist for it, and this song was on it – it’s also mentioned in the book.

What books would you pair with these songs?
As always, feel free to do this tag yourself! I would love to see your book x song pairings!

We read a few of the same books this year! This was a fun response and I’ll have to check out those playlists as I love RWARB
