Joy of Christmas Tag

Merry Christmas to everyone celebrating!

What are your plans for the day(s)? My family and I exchanged presents on Christmas Eve, and today we’re having our extended family over for Christmas dinner. One of my friends is coming over on Boxing Day, and we’ll have a chill dinner and maybe play some boardgames.

The lovely Michaela @ Journey Into Books tagged me to do the Joy of Christmas tag, which I thought would be perfect for Christmas Day!

ANTICIPATION – The Christmas excitement is real. What book release are you most anticipating?

Loveless by Alice Oseman, 100%. She’s my favourite YA contemporary author, if not my favourite author in general. Her books have been really relatable for me, and so far, they haven’t even been about my personal experience necessarily. Loveless will have a protagonist figuring out she’s aroace, and since I’m aroace as well, I just know this book is going to be very close to my personal experience, and I really can’t wait for it to come out.

CHRISTMAS SONGS AND CAROLS – What book or author can you not help but sing its praises?

The Fever King by Victoria Lee and I were off on a rocky start when I first read it earlier in 2019, but I felt like it was a me problem, so I decided to reread it and request the sequel as well. This has been one of my best decisions of 2019, because I ended up loving it so much, and The Electric Heir was sooo good as well!

GINGERBREAD HOUSES – What book or series has wonderful world building?

The Bear and the Nightingale is one of my favourite books, and I especially love it because of its amazing world building. It just draws the setting of the book so well, and I got completely immersed in it.

The Bear and the Nightingale (Winternight Trilogy, #1)

A CHRISTMAS CAROL – Favourite classic or one that you want to read

I don’t read a lot of classics, but I do have one very clear favourite: Alice in Wonderland. This is one of my favourite books of all time, and I actually collect different editions.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass

CHRISTMAS SWEETS – What book would you love to receive for Christmas?

I didn’t put a lot of books on my Christmas wishlist, but one of the ones I asked for is The Black Veins by Ashia Monet, which I’ve been wanting to read ever since it came out. I also asked for a few new editions of Harry Potter and Alice in Wonderland.

The Black Veins (Dead Magic #1)

CANDLES IN THE WINDOW – What book gives you that warm fuzzy feeling?

I’ve tried to be original so far, but I can’t help it, I’m very predictable: Heartstopper and Red, White and Royal Blue. These are THE two books I pick up when I need comforting.

Heartstopper: Volume One (Heartstopper, #1) Red, White & Royal Blue

CHRISTMAS TREES AND DECORATIONS – What are some of your favourite book covers?

I have SO many favourites, it’s impossible to choose. My favourite covers of the year are probably the covers of I Wish You All the Best and Like a Love Story. I absolutely adore the trend of illustrated covers on queer YA!

I Wish You All the Best Like a Love Story

CHRISTMAS JOY – What are some of your favourite things about Christmas and/or some of your favourite Christmas memories?

We never really used to celebrate Christmas Eve specifically, but over the past few years, my family and I have started a new tradition of exchanging presents, and that is probably my favourite. I just really love thinking of fitting gifts and seeing everyone’s reactions.

I TAG

Tagging people always gives me a lot of anxiety, so I’m not going to tag people. If you’ve read this and would like to do the tag as well, consider yourself tagged!

I hope you’re enjoying your Christmas, and if you’re not celebrating, I hope you’ll have a lovely day!

  1. Wonderful answers! I’m also waiting for Loveless by Alice Oseman. She’s become one of my favorite authors after I read Radio Silence by her. Red, White & Royal Blue is my comfort read too! Totally loved it.
