This is the year I’ve fallen in love with audiobooks. I never really used to understand when and how people listened to them, and I figured I would always be able to read much faster if I was just reading physical books. But then I started a free trial on Storytel, which is a Dutch audiobook service where you can listen to an unlimited amount of audiobooks for a set monthly fee. And I fell in love.
I’ve listened to quite a lot of audiobooks this year, and I think it’s the perfect activity to relax, because I’ve found it relaxes me even more than physical reading does! I generally listen to audiobooks while doing another activity on the side that doesn’t request any language skills, like a jigsaw puzzle, sudoku puzzles or a simple computer game.
Partnering with Libro.fm
Earlier this week, I applied for the influencer program of Libro.fm, and I couldn’t be more excited to be accepted for this program. This means I get to listen to a selection of audiobooks to post about and review every month! Libro.fm is an audiobook service that makes it possible for readers to buy audiobooks and support physical bookstores (you could even choose which store to support if you wanted to), and their service is available worldwide (although their membership is limited to the US).
I’ve already listened to Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert, my review of which will be up soon! I’ve also downloaded The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern, so I can reread it (you can find my review here!), and The Deep by Rivers Solomon.
Recommendations
Some books I’ve listened to and really enjoyed are:
- Tara Sim – Timekeeper
- Shaun David Hutchinson – At the Edge of the Universe
- Anna Meriano – A Dash of Trouble
- Nina Moreno – Don’t Date Rosa Santos
- Robin Talley – Pulp
- Elizabeth Acevedo – The Poet X (narrated by the author!)
- Tehlor Kay Mejia – We Set the Dark on Fire
- Sandhya Menon – There’s Something About Sweetie
- Tanya Boteju – Kings, Queens, and In-Betweens
- Amy Spalding – The Summer of Jordi Perez
Do you like to listen to audiobooks?
I’m glad you’re enjoying audiobooks so much!
Personally I don’t listen to them at all, because I don’t really retain information that I only hear, so I tend to space out completely and if I do anything else while listening I focus on that so much I don’t listen anymore. If I want to know what actually happens I have to read it. 😅

It gets a little annoying if someone at work explains something to me and I’m constantly like repeating back at them and writing lengthy notes just to make sure I remember it lol

Haha I can definitely relate to that! I was afraid the same thing would happen to me when I started listening to audiobooks but it’s worked out surprisingly well! I have to say I do prefer listening to contemporary over fantasy though, because fantasy demands more focus when it comes to world building and character names and such

Audiobooks are fantastic! I listen to SO many. The audiobook of The Poet X is definitely one of my favorites, and I’ve definitely got to check out the audiobook of The Starless Sea for when I want to reread it! 😀

Congrats on getting accepted for the Libro.fm influencer program! I want to appy as well but I’ll try to get a bigger following first just to be sure lol 😀
I love audiobooks! I havn’t been listening to a lot of them lately though and I should change that. I’m currently listening to The Brilliant Death by Amy Rose Capetta for the second time and I just love the narrator’s voice so much! I’ll keep in mind your recs as some of those are on my TBR 🙂
Also! This is a shameless promo, but just yesterday I posted about Spotify audiobooks yesterday if you want EVEN MORE audiobooks!! ❤

I listened to the audiobook of The Poet X and it was SO SO SO GOOD (I didn’t like audiobooks before that) 😍 It’s one of my favorites now!! Can’t wait to listen to the others you’ve mentioned, especially the one of There’s Something About Sweetie by Sandhya Menon.

I loved it so much! Her narration was incredible! I really liked the audiobooks for the Sandhya Menon books, they really matched the atmosphere of the books, I thought!
